Mr. Hamburger is a Structural Engineer and Senior Principal with Simpson Gumpertz & Heger in San Francisco, California. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering and an M.S. in Structural Engineering from the Polytechnic University of New York and an MBA in Construction Project Management from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Mr. Hamburger has more than 30 years of experience in structural design, evaluation, construction supervision, research, code and standards development and education. He is member of the ASCE-7 standards committee and its Load Combinations and Seismic task groups and chair of its General Requirements task group: is past vice-chair of Subcommittee 12 of the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding committee, is chair of AISC's Connection Prequalification Committee and chair of the Building Seismic Safety Council's Provisions Update Committee. Mr. Hamburger's practice includes design of mid- and high-rise commercial and residential buildings, seismic evaluation and upgrade of a wide range of buildings, as well as blast progressive collapse analysis and protective design.
Greg Soules is a Principal Engineer and Engineering Project Manager for the Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (CB&I) in The Woodlands, Texas. Responsibilities include the supervision of design engineers, management of the engineering for large projects worldwide, and development of CB&I Engineering Standards on the application of wind loads, seismic loads, and building codes to tank and vessel designs. He serves on the ASCE 7 (Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures) Committee and chairs the ASCE Petrochemical Seismic Committee and the Nonbuilding Structures and Components Technical Subcommittee (TS-8) of the Building Seismic Safety Council.
Mr. Soules earned a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University in 1979 and an MBA from the University of Houston in 1991. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a Licensed Professional Engineer in 15 jurisdictions, a Licensed Structural Engineer in 6 states, and a SECB Certified Structural Engineer. He joined CB&I in 1980.
Richard Fencl is the Technical Director for Gensler’s North Central Region. Mr. Fencl’s role focuses on the technical merit and quality assurance of the Firm’s work and he brings 36 years of practical know-how and architectural engineering to the profession through a broad range of projects. Mr. Fencl’s project experience has focused on the technical development and constructability of building systems, including selection of materials and methodology; specification development; product and system research; general oversight of construction; exterior wall testing and development; and hands on troubleshooting/forensics. Fencl is past Chairman of AIA Chicago’s Technical Committee and of the Chicago Committee on High Rise Buildings. A guest lecturer within collegiate architectural programs, Mr. Fencl has also presented at AIA and ASHRAE National Conventions and has served on the editing boards for PCI and GANA.
